Sandridge Display typeface

Redrawn from the hand-painted navigation tiles seen throughout the subways of Flinders St. Station — Sandridge Regular is a bold, uppercase typeface with simple style.

It takes its name from Sandridge, now known as Port Melbourne, which was the destination of the first steam train journey from Flinders St. in 1854.

When we noticed a few of the tiles being removed and replaced with modern, printed platform signs, we considered it our duty to digitise the letterforms and create a usable typeface from it.

Using a limited character set, we’ve tried to maintain the natural charm & style of the typeforms by keeping the characteristics that make it unique.
